Festival schedule apps
Most major festivals publish their own app with the full schedule, stage map, and lineup by day. Download it before you travel. Official apps are the primary source for last-minute changes and cancellations.
- 🎵 Spotify: build a playlist from the festival lineup before you go. Search the festival name. Most UK and EU festivals have an official playlist. Listen to 20 minutes per artist so you know who to prioritize when two acts clash.
- 📅 Sked: a third-party festival schedule app covering 200+ events. Mark sets, build a personal schedule, and export it. Works offline once the schedule loads.
- 🗓️ Festival official apps: Glastonbury, Coachella, Rock en Seine, Hellfest, and most large festivals have their own iOS and Android apps with interactive maps, setlists, and push notifications for lineup changes. They are the primary source for real-time updates.
- 📻 Setlist.fm: shows setlists from recent shows by the same artist. Tells you which songs an artist has been opening and closing with. Useful if you want to catch a specific track.
- ✅ Download the official festival app at home. App store downloads need a stable connection.
- ✅ Screenshot the full day schedule for each day you attend. You will need it when you have no signal.
- ✅ Check the app each morning. Running times and stage assignments change at the last minute.
Navigation and maps
Google Maps needs a data connection in real time. At a festival with degraded mobile signal, it stops working. Download offline maps before you arrive.
- 🗺️ Maps.me: free offline maps with turn-by-turn navigation. Download the regional map at home. Works without mobile signal. Best for navigating between the festival site, your accommodation, and transport links.
- 📍 Google Maps offline areas: Google Maps lets you download a region for offline use. Select the area, tap Download. Transit routing does not work offline, but the map and POI search do. Download the area around the festival before you leave.
- 🚶 What3words: every 3m square on earth has a unique three-word address. Major UK festivals including Glastonbury and Reading use What3words as an official meeting point system. Download the app and note the What3words code for your camping pitch, main stage, and medical tent.
- 🧭 Festival-specific maps: most festivals provide a PDF site map on their website. Download and screenshot it. It shows internal paths, stage locations, and exit gates that general mapping apps do not have.
- ✅ Note your campsite location (grid reference, colour zone, or What3words address) before you enter the arena on day 1.
- ✅ Download regional offline maps 24 hours before you travel. Large downloads take time.
- ✅ Keep your phone above 50% battery when navigating. Offline maps use GPS and drain battery faster.
Transport booking apps
Book transport before the festival. Trains, coaches, and taxis from festival sites sell out or surge-price on departure day. Every major European festival has predictable transport demand.
- 🚆 Trainline: covers UK and European rail. Book tickets and download them to your phone. Tickets store offline in the app. No signal needed at the gate. Advance tickets for festival weekends sell out 4 to 8 weeks ahead.
- 🚌 FlixBus: low-cost coach network across Europe. Routes run directly to many festival sites. Book in advance. Last-minute prices are 3 to 5x higher. Tickets download to the app.
- 🚗 BlaBlaCar: car-sharing between cities. Strong coverage in France, Spain, and Central Europe. Festival carpooling groups appear on BlaBlaCar 2 to 3 weeks before major events.
- 🚖 Bolt / FREE NOW: alternatives to Uber in France, Germany, Spain, and Eastern Europe. Surge pricing at festival endings runs high. Book a pickup 30 minutes before the set ends.
- ✈️ Skyscanner / Google Flights: set price alerts 6 to 8 weeks out for international festivals. Flights to Barcelona (Primavera), Lisbon (NOS Alive), or Bruges (Cactus) need to be booked well in advance.
For UK festivals, National Rail advance tickets go on sale 12 weeks ahead. Glastonbury (Castle Cary) and Download (Derby) festival weekends sell out at advance prices within hours of release.
Group coordination apps
Coordinating 4 to 8 people across a 100,000-person site requires tools that work without constant data. WhatsApp is the minimum. These apps are better.
- 💰 Splitwise: tracks shared expenses. One person books the Airbnb, another buys train tickets, a third covers the first round. Splitwise records everything and calculates who owes what at the end. Free for the features that matter at a festival.
- 📍 Life360 / Google Maps location sharing: share live location with your group. Requires a data connection. A brief reconnect every hour (at a food stall or any open ground) is enough to re-sync.
- 📱 WhatsApp with location sharing: WhatsApp's live location feature (15 minutes, 1 hour, or 8 hours) works when your group is within a few hundred metres. Set up a group photo album for the shared camera roll.
- 🗺️ Zenly or BeReal for location: simpler location sharing with a permanent map view. Good for the 'where are you?' question without calling.
- ✅ Agree on a physical meeting point before entering the arena. Pick one specific spot visible from 50 metres: a named food stall, a visible sculpture, or the stage entrance.
- ✅ Set group check-in times: message at noon, 4pm, and after the headliner. This removes the lost-person panic.
- ✅ Charge devices before the festival opens each day. Group coordination requires battery.

- 🌤️ Weather apps with hourly forecasts: BBC Weather and Meteoblue are the most accurate for UK and European festival locations. Screenshot the hourly forecast for each day before you lose signal.
One preparation step saves more time than any app: write down the key information on paper before you travel. Your camping grid reference. The festival's lost property number. The postcode of your accommodation. Phones run out of battery. Paper does not.
