Summer is for music festivals. Fall is for conventions.
From October through November, four of the world's biggest pop culture gatherings happen within weeks of each other. Each has its own personality.
New York Comic Con 2026
New York Comic Con is the largest pop culture convention in North America. Around 200,000 people attend each October, filling the Jacob K. Javits Center on the west side of Manhattan. Marvel, DC, anime, gaming, horror, indie comics: the programming covers everything.
- 📅 Dates: October 8-11, 2026 (Thursday to Sunday)
- 📍 Venue: Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, 655 W 34th St, New York City
- 🎟️ Tickets: sold in waves from spring onward at nycomiccon.com. Thursday and Sunday badges are cheaper. Four-day passes sell out first.
- 🌟 Key draws: major studio panels, celebrity signings, exclusive merchandise, cosplay competitions, gaming halls
The panels in the main Hammerstein Ballroom book out instantly: camp early or enter via lottery (check the NYCC mobile app). The show floor is navigable if you arrive early on weekdays. Saturday is the busiest and most chaotic day.
- ✅ Book your hotel in Midtown or near Javits at least 3 months ahead
- ✅ Use the NYCC mobile app to build your schedule before the event
- ✅ Thursday and Sunday badges offer the best experience-to-price ratio
- ✅ Bring cash for artist alley: many independent creators prefer it
MCM London Comic Con : October 2026
MCM London is Europe's largest pop culture event held twice a year at ExCeL London. The October edition is the bigger of the two. Around 130,000 people attend over three days of manga, anime, gaming, film, and cosplay.
- 📅 Dates: October 23-25, 2026 (check mcmcomiccon.com to confirm)
- 📍 Venue: ExCeL London, Royal Victoria Dock, London E16
- 🎟️ Tickets: available at mcmcomiccon.com. Family tickets and weekend passes offer better value. Queues at the door are long: buy in advance.
- 🌟 Key draws: major anime and gaming guests, cosplay, exclusive collectibles, gaming tournaments, photography and autograph sessions
MCM is especially strong for anime, manga and Japanese pop culture content. If that's your focus, it may be a better fit than NYCC. ExCeL is well-connected by DLR from central London (Custom House station).
- ✅ Saturday is the peak cosplay day: arrive early to see the full effect
- ✅ Guest autograph and photo sessions sell out days in advance: book online
- ✅ ExCeL has a cloakroom, useful if you're in costume with accessories
- ✅ Eurostar from Paris: 2h17 to St Pancras, DLR connection to ExCeL
Lucca Comics & Games : October 29 to November 2, 2026
Italy's biggest pop culture festival takes over the entire medieval walled city of Lucca, in Tuscany. Around 300,000 people attend across five days. The venue is unlike anything else on the convention circuit: parades through fortified gates, panels inside ancient palaces, exhibits in cloisters.
- 📅 Dates: October 29 to November 2, 2026
- 📍 Venue: Lucca city centre, Tuscany, Italy. 30 minutes by train from Pisa.
- 🎟️ Tickets: day passes and multi-day passes at luccacomicsandgames.com. Saturday passes sell out months in advance.
- 🌟 Key draws: international comics and manga publishers, gaming, historical cosplay, open-air stages, free events throughout the city
Lucca is the most atmospheric convention in Europe. The medieval setting makes cosplay photos extraordinary. Some events are free and open to all: the city essentially becomes a festival for a week. Plan around which specific exhibitions and publishers you want to visit.
- ✅ Book accommodation in Pisa or Florence: Lucca's hotels fill up entirely months before
- ✅ The city becomes extremely dense on Saturday: arrive early and move deliberately
- ✅ Free outdoor stages and exhibitions are worth doing even without a ticket
- ✅ Fly to Pisa Galileo Galilei, then local train to Lucca (30 minutes)
Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show : October 2026
The Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show is France's biggest dedicated manga and Japanese pop culture convention. It happens twice a year at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. The autumn edition typically falls in mid-October.
- 📅 Dates: October 17-18, 2026 (to confirm on parismanga.fr)
- 📍 Venue: Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, Pavilion 3, Paris 15e
- 🎟️ Tickets: available online at parismanga.fr. Weekend passes offer savings over day passes.
- 🌟 Key draws: manga publishers, anime merchandise, cosplay competitions, Japanese culture workshops, gaming and retro gaming
Paris Manga is smaller and more niche than NYCC or MCM, but that's part of its appeal. The focus is tight: manga, anime, Japanese culture. If that's your priority, it delivers more of what you want with less noise around it.
- ✅ Metro line 12 or 13 to Porte de Versailles: 20 minutes from central Paris
- ✅ Cosplay Saturday is the busiest day, Sunday morning is calmer
- ✅ Bring cash for independent publishers and smaller vendors
Other conventions worth knowing
A few more events that round out the fall convention calendar for European fans.
- 🇩🇪 Comic Action Essen (Germany, October): held during Spiel, the world's largest board game convention. Comics and gaming in one location.
- 🇧🇪 FACTS (Ghent, Belgium, October): Belgium's largest pop culture convention. Strong gaming, cosplay and anime programming.
- 🇪🇸 Manga Barcelona (Spain, March): not fall, but the biggest manga event in Spain, worth planning ahead.

Tips for first-time convention-goers
- ✅ Buy tickets early: major conventions sell out, especially weekend and all-day passes
- ✅ Build your schedule in advance: panels and signings book up. Use the official app when available.
- ✅ Wear comfortable shoes: convention floors are large and hard. You will walk 10+ km.
- ✅ Bring a portable charger: you'll use your phone constantly for schedules and photos
- ✅ Pack light: bags are checked at the entrance. Large props may not be allowed.
